I have not worked out consistently for two months now. And today we'll talk about that.

You're listening to the Stop the Mind Screw Podcast. I'm your host, Kathie Owen Certified Fitness Trainer and Life Coach since 2002. We talk about mindset, fitness, reality  transurfing, habits, healthy habits, and more on this podcast today, we're talking about fitness and habits fitness after 50.

I quit working out consistently back in February, I want to say, and it is now a April and there was a reason for that. I was sleeping really, really good when it came time for me to get up because I am a morning workout person and I was tired. And I didn't feel right. I could feel something was not off inside of me.

I mean, I am in my late fifties and I still haven't hit menopause yet. I'm in perimenopause, but I really haven't had any symptoms. My cycle was regular and it had stopped back last summer, but then all of a sudden it came back and I have a blog post on that and I'll link it in the show notes, but then again, back in about February, my cycle stopped again.

And so I guess I was hitting menopause. I don't know. I am one that I have a huge distrust of doctors and I have a reason for it. And it's very valid reasons, but that is not what this episode is going to be about. But this episode is about how I'm doing. Well, and how I'm feeling better. And I felt in my heart that if I did not share what I've learned, I would be doing you a disservice because what I have learned is extremely valuable for you and all of my clients.

Actually, it doesn't matter how old you are or what you're going through. If you work out with me or you're interested in fitness in any kind of shape and form that I talk about on this episode, on this podcast. You would benefit from what I have learned.

So my supplement guy referred me to this place called ways to well and what they do. (Chris of Iamsupplements) And they're only in the Houston area. So I apologize, but I am absolutely sure you can get this anywhere. You just need to search for it.

But what they do is they test your blood at, uh, at quest diagnostics.  The place that tests your blood and they go over everything you can think of, and they can see where you're missing nutrients and vitamins and what's going on in your body.

What they found out for me was startling and also validated what I was going through. So, uh, a real doctor or. A medical doctor would have never found all of these things. Now they would have seen what was wrong in my blood, but they wouldn't have prescribed what ways to well prescribed for me.

So what they found was I was having inflammation in my digestive system because my body is not processing nutrients properly, so I'm not getting nutrients from anything at this point in time.

Before I, before I got all off, when I got this blood work done and it appears that. I'm not processing insulin properly. My blood sugar was messed up almost like a diabetic, but I'm not diabetic.

It also had to do with hormone imbalance because I'm, I had almost zero progesterone. Um, no testosterone, and I was also lacking nutrients like magnesium, which helps you relax and sleep and all that.

So what this place does is they analyze your blood work. You go over it with a doctor and they talk about everything that your blood panel shows.

And it was very, very thorough. And, oh my gosh, it was awesome. Especially if you're involved in fitness, as much as I am. And it was just like eye-opening just to see all that.

So they put me on, um, a magnesium supplement that I have to say this too, that the supplements are made at a special pharmacy. They're not just something you buy on Amazon, which you can do of course, but it, um, it really helps so much.

I started taking the supplements right away. Cause they came in first and the supplements that they prescribed for me were magnesium, iron. Cause I was low on iron, very low on iron actually, which meant that something was going on in my digestive system.

And something also was inflammation inside of my digestive system. So iron and krill, I think I'm saying that right, but it's fish oil, a new type of fish oil that is out. And you can buy that on Amazon too. I did some research on it, but it's a really good effective kind of fish oil. And I'm also on digestive enzymes.

Those are the natural supplements that they put me on. Then I also got put on hormones. For obvious reasons, which is pretty typical for women my age. And I could tell you that after taking my supplements right away, I felt better just like in a few days. And then I started taking. Medications that they gave me.

And I, I don't know yet. I still don't feel a hundred percent, but I am going to be starting back on my workout routine. And I will keep you up to date on what happens with that. Because another thing that was happening with me was I was losing muscle. I've lost a lot of muscle and I've also lost some weight over the time.

You know, I'd go to the gym maybe once a week. I would step on the scale and I'm like, wow, I'm losing weight. I don't, it just was beyond me. But I figured out that I am losing muscle. And so. With my treatment that they put me on, I will start building muscle easily and I start to feel a lot better. Of course, and my workouts will be totally different.

Now what happens with this program is they test your blood every three months to see how the supplements are working and see if we need to tweak anything. Or if you need to know. Here here. Here's another killer that I am going to be very vulnerable with you and tell you, I had a very bad habit and I know this is kind of funny, but I was drinking monster drinks.

I was actually drinking. Oh my gosh, I'm scared to tell you this. I was drinking Monster drinks. But I was drinking two of them a day and that was really affecting every. Needless to say, I got cold Turkey off of them.

Um, I do get my caffeine from a more natural supplement and I don't, uh, monster drinks are very unhealthy for you just know that, and that was totally affecting everything and probably causing the inflammation in my digestive system, as well as making my pancreas not work properly and to. The insulin get into my body. So I can almost assure you that, that that's one of the things that was really messing everything up. And my point in telling you all of this is.

My ideal client or the person that works with me is over 50 and actually has been since I was, since I started in fitness because I got a certified fitness trainer certification first, but I was teaching water aerobics, and I've always worked with the older adult population since I started in fitness in 2000.

And. I've taught water aerobics. I've taught arthritis classes so quickly after I got my fitness certification, I got a specialized certification for older adult fitness. And along the way, I'm also doing my continuing education right now to renew my certifications because you have to do continuing education every two years to renew your certifications as a fitness trainer.

I'm kind of geeking out on different types of classes because I'm with idea fit and idea, fit offers for a subscription for a year. They offer unlimited amount of continuing education. So I geek out on certain things, especially behavior modification, mindset. Older adult fitness, hormones, and fitness, and I've taken several different classes, which I will be incorporating into my courses that I teach online that will be inside of my store at  www.kathieowen.com/store which is coming very soon because I'm not just going to launch courses.

I'm going to have ongoing education where you, you, you know, maybe. What hormone education, but maybe you want something along the lines of strength training, and you only want to understand that. And I have stuff on that as well, as well as little bonuses on habits and building healthy habits and mindset, those kinds of things.

And of course, I'll be teaching something along the lines of reality, trans surfing, which is life-changing just overall, um, psychology. Uh, personal development, all of those things I geek out on. I know, but I love it. And I'm very, very passionate about it. And I would be doing you a disservice if I didn't tell you these things were out there for you as well as I would be doing you a disservice by holding these things to myself, just because they're kind of personal, but at the same time, I go through things and I share them because that's what I believe helps me to grow.

We are both the teacher and the students simultaneously all throughout life. We all make mistakes. We're all not perfect. And it it's just part of life and part of being human, which is a wonderful experience in my opinion. And my belief. It's just, yeah, it's all good. So that's my episode for today. Oh, also I want to include this real quick that, um, I'm only going to be doing episodes on Tuesday because I am working on so much.

And my word of the year 2022 is kindness and I don't just express kindness to others and work on that. And. Get better every day, but I also practice kindness on myself. And so by practice kindness on myself, I relieve myself of the pressure to release two episodes a week, or to just, you know, um, overwhelm myself with a lot of work because I do want to continue my education.

I guy said. All of us are both the student and the teacher simultaneously. And as you learn, when you teach it, you learn even more. It just is profound. I can't stress that enough. So that's my episode for today. I invite you to join my email list and you can do so under www.kathieowen.com/fitness.

And you can find all kinds of resources on there. You'll go on my automatic newsletter. Cause my fitness newsletter is my main newsletter and I also have a reality trans surfing newsletter. But that again, transurfing will be every other Tuesday and then every other Tuesday will be fitness and mindset.

At least for now that could change at any time because really a truly the podcast is one of the easiest things that I do. And it's super easy to edit up and going. And having said that today, I hope you liked it. Please share it with somebody. And until next time, I'll see you next time. Peace out and Namaste.
